For still lifes, I like to choose subjects that are meaningful to me—that are personal. Take the bag of Tayto crisps. I walked past the Tayto factory in Dublin, Ireland, every day to and from school. The tangelos were from my garden when I lived in Phoenix. The plum series reflects plums from a tree in our backyard in California. They were all so different and I wanted to memorialize that. The desserts include a sterling silver spoon and fork made in Norway in the 1950s. I bought them for $5 at a yard sale outside Clear Lake State Park in California.
